Orissa win East Zone cricket tourney for visually impaired

Orissa beat Tripura in the final by 67 runs to emerge champions in the East Zone Cricket Tournament for Visually Impaired, which was held at Nimpur ground, Jagatpur (Cuttack) from September 16 to 19. Sukharam Majhi starred in the Orissa win, hitting an unbeaten 75. He was adjudged the man of the match.

The man of the tournament award was claimed by Pankaj Bhoi (Orissa) for scoring two centuries in the tournament. Earlier in the semifinals, Orissa beat Bihar by six wickets, while Tripura got the better of Jharkhand by 19 runs.

The champion side received the top prize of Rs 15,000, while the runners-up took home Rs 10,000. Cuttack Collector Girish S N, Deputy Collector Jyoti Prakash Das and Orissa head of Special Olympics Bharat Prakash Kumar Rath handed over the trophy and cash prizes at the closing function.

The four-day tournament was organised by Bhubaneswar-based Institute of Social Work & Research in association with Cuttack District Administration, Orissa Cricket Association and Special Olympics Bharat, Orissa.

Brief score: Orissa 183/6 in 15 overs (Sukharam Majhi 75 n.o, Pankaj Bhoi 22; Ritan Devburma and Titan Ray 2 wkts each) beat Tripura 116/8 in 15 overs (Nishikant 20; Jaffer Mohammad 2 wkts).
